חשבתי שמאוריציוס ירגיע אותך עם הפחדים אבל אתה עדיין בעסק.
גם לפי הסיפור הציוני הצהרת בלפור היא תגמול לחיים וויצמן על תרומתו לבריטניה במלחמת העולם הראשונה. אף אחד לא השלה את עצמו שהיא ניתה משיקולים דתיים אידיאולוגיים. אם כי בלפור היה המקאבי של אותה תקופה והוא קיבל את הנוסח הציוני "ארץ ישראל כבית לאומי" וראש הממשלה שמעליו לויד ג'ורג' תיקן את זה ל"בית לאומי בארץ ישראל" ובכך פתח פתח לחלוקות שונות. בעוד בלפור היה רוצה לצפצף על הערבים ולתת לנו את שני גדות הירדן על מגש (לא את כל גבולות ההבטחה כי הייתה חלוקה בין הביטים לצרפתים בהסכמי סייס פיקו).
