Taking place May 2-4, Tel Aviv’s upcoming ‘Salute to the White City’ weekend is a citywide festival in celebration of the Mediterranean coastal city’s 10th anniversary of being named a UNESCO World Heritage site. Known as the ‘White City,’ Tel Aviv is home to more than 4,000 International Bauhaus style buildings built in the 1930’s by German Jewish architects following World War II. Today, Tel Aviv is home to the world’s largest collection of Bauhaus architecture in the world. The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality is inviting guests to “Salute the White City” and celebrate its stunning collection of architecture and design-focused events, exhibitions and tours, including: Houses from Within–Bauhaus Edition, Guerilla Lighting in Tel Aviv, and Greening the White City

הרצוג ודה מרון מתכננים את הספריה הלאומית

After carefully considering six international architecture firms – Ammar Curiel; Frank Gehry; Herzog & de Meuron; Kimmel Eshkolot, Kolker Kolker Epstein and Renzo Piano – an esteemed selection committee has chosen Herzog & de Meuron to design the new National Library of Israel in Jerusalem. The result comes after a controversial first attempt that ended in the dismissal of the initial competition winner for alleged copyright infringement.

Rather than submitting proposals, the entrants underwent an extensive interview process. As reported by The National Library of Israel, the panel was “extraordinarily impressed by the commitment shown by Jacques Herzog & Pierre de Meuron, as well as by the strengths and promise of their architectural approach – their handling of the natural and urban landscape, the connection with the surrounding institutions and the interpretation of the Library program. It was both innovative and clearly focused.”

In addition, the “strong and creative” Basel-based team was lauded for sharing a “clear openness to dialogue with the client, bringing their experience and precise working methods to the design process.”

The recommendation of the panel for the architect (who will become the Selected Architect upon entering into an agreement), has been approved by the Board of Directors of the National Library and by the Board of Directors of the National Library Construction Company.

בואו לשמוע מחוקרי אדריכלות וממומחים לדיור בר השגה ולאדריכלות ירוקה מהארץ ומאירופה על האיכויות המייחדות את האדריכלות המודרניסטית המאפיינת את תל אביב וכיצד אפשר לאמץ את חלקן גם כיום לטובת התמודדות עם אתגרים עכשוויים כמו בנייה ציבורית, בנייה ירוקה ועוד.
הכנס הפתוח לקהל יתקיים בשלושה מושבים: המושב הראשון יעסוק בהיבטים ההיסטוריים ויגדיר את איכויות הסגנון המודרניסטי המכונה "באוהאוס". המושב השני יבדוק כיצד אפשר ליישם גישות וטכנולוגיות ברות קיימא במבנים קיימים ולהוריק את העיר הלבנה תוך שימור מורשתה. המושב השלישי יבחן סוגיות של דיור ציבורי - נושא שעלה לאחרונה לסדר היום בישראל - באמצעות התפיסות החברתיות והאסתטיות של הסגנון הבינלאומי ותוך הצגת דוגמאות של דיור ציבורי בברלין.
